This memorial commemorates the members of the NKVD border guard detachment who died at Brest Fortress in the opening days of the war, including their commander, Lieutenant Andrei Kizhevatov. The central monument stands on a small mound and is surrounded by eight smaller columns, each bearing the likeness of one of the guards.
The memorial was crafted by the sculptors M. S. Altschuler and A. A. Pavlyuchuk and was inaugurated in 1972.
The momument is located on Masherov Avenue (проспект Машерова), the main road leading to Brest Fortress. It is close to the Intourist Hotel and St. Simeon’s Cathedral.
