Liberation Memorial, Chonki, Belarus

This memorial, commemorating the liberation of the Gomel region in November 1943, stands on the bank of the River Sozh in the village of Chonki (Чёнки), in the southwestern outskirts of Gomel city. The memorial consists of a obelisk, which takes the form of a stylised bayonnet, along with a series of tablets listing the names of some of the liberators who fell in battle.

The text on the stone shown below reads “Народ Беларуси будет вечно помнить ваш героизм и верность Родине,” which in English means “The people of Belarus will always remember your heroism and loyalty to the motherland.”
